Guitar Lessons for Kids Choosing the Right Teacher

Guitar Lessons for Kids Choosing the Right Teacher Megan L. One of the most important factors in guitar lessons for kids is finding the right teacher. Guitar teacher  Raymond L.  shares his secrets for finding a great teacher for your child In my opinion one of the first qualities, you, as a parent, have to look for in a guitar teacher is that they inspire your child and help them develop a profound love for this beautiful musical instrument. If your guitar teacher does not inspire your child, very likely they wont be able to motivate your child or awaken in them a passion for the guitar, which is so essential to assure a progressive and sound development in your child’s musical and technical abilities. As a parent, you should ask yourself these questions to see if a guitar teacher is right for your child: Does the guitar teacher know how to stimulate a positive attitude in my child? What systems does he or she use to motivate my child? Does the guitar teacher have good teaching skills and experience? Stimulating a Positive Attitude It is crucial that your guitar teacher works with your child to create a positive mindset because many students get easily frustrated when they are taking beginner guitar lessons. So the guitar teacher has to help with the anxiety of the student, always making him or her feel at ease. They should tell your child, from the start, to avoid using the words “hard” or “difficult” in their vocabulary whenever they are experiencing some technical difficulty in playing a piece of music, but rather to substitute the word “challenging” for other words that have a more negative connotation. Your guitar teacher should encourage your child to never say, “I can’t”, but to say instead, “I will”. It is also essential for your guitar teacher to get to know your child’s interests: for example what kind of music they love in order to be prepared and able to teach your child those songs, or the type of music that most inspires them. Your guitar teacher has to establish long-term, intermediate- and short-term goals together with your child, by brainstorming with them and incorporate those goals in the curriculum. Your guitar teacher should never foster the feeling in your child that they are being punished, for example, making them repeat a song or a passage too many times. On the contrary, they should reinforce the child’s self-confidence by accompanying them, while repeating the song or music section, just enough to keep their interest and help them continue learning. Motivation When your child achieves one of their goals and is able to play their first song, riff, or piece of music satisfactorily, they will get what we call in psychology, “intrinsic motivation”. This type of motivation develops from inside your child, from the pleasure they get from the task itself, from their enjoyment of playing, or even the satisfaction of working with the music.  Many children are already intrinsically motivated because they simply love music or have an idol that they want to imitate or emulate. Your guitar teacher should also stimulate your child’s motivation by using “extrinsic motivation” by rewarding him or her for their progress, especially if they notice signs of discouragement or low motivation. This approach will help to compensate for any gaps in intrinsic motivation and keep your childs motivation at a high level. Your guitar teacher can use different methods and systems to reward and motivate, such as: Playing the guitar for your child Using encouraging words such as: “Good job”, “Perfect”, “Awesome”, etc. Rewarding them with stickers for their music book or notebook when they play a song correctly Practicing together with your child, accompanying them while they play the instrument Repeating and adding rhythm to the song or music if they have played the song correctly Giving out certificates of merit and achievement Organizing jam sessions with other students of the same level Organizing recitals together with students for parents, family and friends Organizing awards and competitions between students Parents should also use what I call the “Motivation Meter” that shows the measure of their child’s motivation. This is the intuition or feeling you get when your child starts showing lack of interest in attending guitar lessons.  Once the “Motivation Meter” sends the alarm signal to your mind, immediately you should start looking for the cause of this lack of motivation in your child. Youll want to be able to talk to their guitar teacher about the problem too. Teaching Skills Versus Technical Skills It is of vital importance for parents to know the type of education, preparation, musical background, technical skills, music knowledge, and even written reviews their childs guitar teacher has. Do not be impressed only by a guitar teachers technical skills (how well they play the guitar) because this aspect is not always a guarantee that they also possess the ability to communicate information clearly and with ease. It is important to distinguish a performing artist from an educator. Parents, you don’t want to have to struggle with your child to get them to their guitar lessons, neither would you like to see them dragging to practice.  I’m sure you would like to see your child enjoying their guitar lessons, so please consider these tips to evaluate and select your child’s guitar teacher with consciousness. Consequently you will contribute to a delightful experience for your child with the guitar. Interested in guitar lessons for kids? Search for a guitar teacher near you! Can Online Tutoring Replace Live Classroom Education

Can Online Tutoring Replace Live Classroom Education The internet has dramatically changed things across a wide spectrum transforming impossible to possible. Today, the entire world is under the spell of the phenomenal growth of the internet; education is one such area observing major changes with popularly known e-learning or online tutoring. The primary benefit of  tutoring  online is that one can attend a school in England while staying in Africa. On the contrary, review says that online tutoring may not be fully appreciable as one-to-one learning in classroom inspires efforts, enforce accountability and endorse academic responsibility in subtle ways. The debate goes on with question Can Online Tutoring replace live classroom education? Here are the pros and cons of both Live Classroom and Online Tutoring will allow you to decide on the most debated questions. Pros of Live Classroom: • Are great due to face-to-face interactions between tutor and student • Chance to develop and learn better in a social network with other students • Chance to learn lessons on values of life that online tutoring does not have • Resume showing your education from good school always carry weight • Gives life changing experience to shape and get ready to face the real world Cons of Live Classroom: • Expensive which include cost school fees, transportation, uniform and social activities • Time consuming which takes lot of time apart from classroom hours • Adjusting to new environment each year Pros of Online Tutoring: • Get study material online viz. educational materials, videos, audio books etc. in downloadable format • Can access and replay the recorded tutoring • Flexible in study hours with deadlines to meet • Full control with student with self-paced learning concept • Less expensive in comparison to live classroom • Can be finished in a shorter time Cons of Online Tutoring: • Lack of bond between student and tutor as they may not interact face-to-face • Lack practical and laboratory guidance • Required choosing accredited online tutoring • Need to be self-disciplined and responsible to meet given deadlines • Require stable and reliable internet connection On student part, hard work and perseverance are the most two important elements to finish up the course successfully. With online tutoring, the role of teacher transforms from being content deliverer to more of a mentor. We keep subject matter under a debate, keeping an option open for students to opt one that most feasible on their part. According to Tutor Pace Inc., online tutoring may not replace live classroom but it always helps the growth of basic classroom education.

A New School 5 Tips for Parents

A New School 5 Tips for Parents A new school is a daunting prospect. Here are five tips for parents to help your children:  1. Allow your child to feel whatever they are feeling Tell your child that it’s normal to feel whatever they are feeling. Be careful not to invalidate those feelings by saying ‘don’t be silly, you don’t feel nervous’. If they want to tear-up, let them. Most people feel a lot better after letting off a bit of steam.  Empathise with their concerns. Agree that you too would be worried about such a thing.  2. Remind your child that everyone feels just as nervous Ask them if they think any other students could feel the same way when they enter a new school. Maybe share a personal story if you have one: your first day of school or even a new job. Ask them to be kind to the other students who may be just as nervous as they are. A mission to take care of the other students can give them confidence and help them make friends much quicker.  3. Know what happens on the first day Schools often send out letters detailing the first day of term, and sometimes the entire first week. Read this with your child and write down any questions that you will phone or email the school with so you can find out the answers in good time 4. Make a plan with your child My fellow tutors and I have found that creating a wall-planner can be hugely beneficial, especially if you use this to discuss an action plan for the term ahead. Seeing the bigger picture makes the term seem less daunting and helps them plan homework and revision so exams don’t ‘pop out-of-the-blue’.  5. Make your the boss of their own education A student who feels empowered, and supported, in their own education will do better than one who is dragged kicking and screaming through the school year. Ask them how you can best support them in their studies. Can you remind them every evening to get their work done before watching TV? Can you get them any additional books or resources as the term goes on? Then it’s easier to say “you asked me to do this” rather than coercion later on.

Still, Already or Yet And is the NSA Spying on you Videos and Exercises Still, Already and Yet are three essential English adverbs used to express when actions are going to happen, are expected or unexpected to happen. The Top Five Video Games for College Students

The Top Five Video Games for College Students Super Smash Bros. Brawl photo via Flickr user J from the UK. 1) Super Smash Bros. Nintendos all-out brawler for the Wii lets up to four people duke it out in a cartoony way that seems deceivingly simple. A strategic fighter game that many college students have played at some point or another before college, Super Smash Bros. is one of the best video games to play with roommates, floormates, new friends, and even your RA (speaking as an RA, I can attest to going a few rounds with residents). Anyone can pick up and button-mash, but those with more practice can really go at it, making this the perfect video game to grace a college dorm room. 2) Halo This Xbox-exclusive series which may very well be the Xbox Ones last vestige of hope (oops, sorry not sorry) is widely popular as a somewhat more casual first-person shooter. You play as a Spartan, a super-soldier sent to fight against aliens from the Covenant using all manner of futuristic guns, grenades, and laser swords. Whether through a pick-up cooperative game with a friend or two either online or in person, or a fast-paced multiplayer versus game online, Halo effectively entertains the easily-distracted college student. The Sims box photo via Flickr user joshwept 3) The Sims 3 The Sims have been around for-flipping-ever and are still, believe it or not, successful enough to still be coming out with new expansion packs for their latest installment, The Sims 3. I mentioned in a previous article about the best PC games for non-gamers  that The Sims 3 is a god game. You control your Sims every move (*cue Every Breath You Take*) and have endless possibilities at your disposal to micro-manage your Sims lives. What makes The Sims super appealing towards college students, perhaps, is that feeling of being in control while in the real world, we are learning to take control of  our  lives. Just a theory. 4) Left for Dead 2 Havent you heard? Zombie is the new vampire craze. Or maybe its always been about zombies. Left for Dead 2, an oldie but goodie, is a cooperative first-person shooter game for PC and Mac that pits you and three other survivors against zombie hordes. Almost anyone can play since its for both PC and Mac and its usually pretty cheap during Steam sales. Since it relies on online play, you can team up with friends sitting right next to you or across the country. Ive played Left for Dead 2 in my dorm and at home with my college friends, making it an easy, great way to game with friends no matter where you are. Animal Crossing New Leaf box art, via Amazon.com 5) Animal Crossing: New Leaf Animal Crossing launched way back when on the trusty Gamecube.  Animal Crossing has a simple premise you play a villager who comes to a town populated by animal inhabitants and work to repay your mortgage while making friends, collecting bugs and fish, pulling weeds to maintain the town, and the like.  The latest installment, Animal Crossing: New Leaf for the 3DS has been making rippling waves in the gaming community, placing you as the mayor of your  new town and as such have many more responsibilities and privileges.. While I havent yet played New Leaf, I am a huge fan of the series and many of my college friends have been waxing poetically about the game. What makes Animal Crossing: New Leaf great for college students is firstly, the ability to share friend codes with others and visit each others town and secondly, the ability to close and open your 3DS anywhere and play for just a few minutes or a few hours. With the mobility of a college students life, Animal Crossing is a gre at game to consider, one that I hope to get my paws on soon. Do you have favorite video games for college students? Office White Elephant Gift Exchange Ideas

Office White Elephant Gift Exchange Ideas Image: Andrew Neel via https://unsplash.com/photos/IPx7J1n_xUc Something practical for the office In an office setting, there are things that everyone inevitably needs. It could be pens, paper, or staples. Look around and take notice of things that are starting to run low. If you want to get something like pens or notebooks, get ones that are fun and different instead of plain ones to keep things interesting.  If you get something in a large quantity, everyone in the office can use it and share it. You can buy a desktop calendar that has daily jokes. That way, someone in the office can tell jokes and keep the office atmosphere fun and light.  Desktop boxing  is a great way to relieve stress and tension in the office. If your office has coffee, you can buy a fun mug so the recipient can use it for coffee. You can also buy fun sticky notes or uniquely shaped paper clips to keep things interesting. Inside office joke As long as you keep things appropriate, if your office has some kind of running joke or inside joke going around, buy something related to it. These kinds of white elephant gifts always make people laugh and may even make a reappearance for years to come. Some previous white elephant gifts may even be the inside joke. However, it is important to keep it appropriate and professional. While you may have an inside joke that may seem funny to you and your immediate coworkers and supervisor, your main manager may not find humor in an inappropriate joke. If everybody always complains about how cold the office is, you can buy an ugly holiday sweater or some slippers. For an office where all of the older people are constantly asking the younger workers how to use technology, you can buy one of the “For Dummies” books. If someone in the office is notoriously gassy, you can buy an air freshener to keep around. A gift card to a store or restaurant near the office Gift cards are a great gift. To make it fitting for the office, buy a gift card for a restaurant or store near the office. This is especially helpful if you or coworkers always grab a bite to eat at the restaurant on a regular basis for lunch or happy hour after work.  The store gift card is helpful since it is near the office and your coworkers will not have to worry about finding the store. They can make a stop before or after work. Also, gift cards are great because the recipient can choose what they want to buy. With gift cards, you can wrap them up in a variety of creative ways. You can put a small box in a bunch of larger boxes. You can wrap it in a small box or an oversized box. You can even put it in a box that once held something else. Just make sure you hint that the box may not be indicative to what is actually in the box. Sometimes, the humor and entertainment is watching someone unwrap a gift in an unexpected package and people find it fun to find something they were not thinking about. A team-building experience As an office, there is nothing more important than working as a team to get things done. If you have a lot of new people or are looking to get to know your coworkers better, buying a team building activity is a great idea for the gift exchange. Whether it is a funny game or an escape room experience, any opportunity to get to know your coworkers better can help your company grow together to help everyone get on the same page and make the work environment a little more fun. It will give you memories to laugh about for years to come and will give you conversation starters for you and your coworkers. White elephant gift exchanges are a lot of fun, but in an office setting, it is important to have gifts that are appropriate and professional. Luckily, this can still be fun, especially if you find something that has an office inside joke.
